A bus serving children in Lyde Green has been saved through the work of the Labour/Liberal Democrat partnership running South Gloucestershire Council.

The 459 goes from Lyde Green to Winterbourne International Academy. Stagecoach previously announced it would be cutting the service, but the new Administration has managed to find funding to keep it going for another year.

During that time, options will be explored to find more long-term, sustainable sources of funding for the route.

Lyde Green is a development in Emersons Green, a ward proudly represented by Labour councillors Katrina Al-Hassan and Ron Hardie.

The Labour/Liberal Democrat Partnership has also managed to save the 427 which runs from Frenchay to Winterbourne International Academy, and the 460, which runs from Coalpit Heath and Frampton Cotterell to the school.

Meanwhile, the Administration’s working on saving other bus routes currently under threat, for example the 458.

Katrina Al-Hassan, one of the Labour councillors for Emersons Green, said: “This is absolutely fantastic news for Lyde Green.

“I’m a Mum living locally and I know how important it is for children to be able to get to and from school.

“It also means we don’t go backwards on our climate commitments. More people travelling on the bus means less traffic and less emissions.”
