A former Chair of South Gloucestershire Council says that the authority’s current Conservative leadership is publicly rubbishing their party predecessors.

Councillor Ian Boulton, who was Chair in 2013/14, has made the comments after a Council meeting in which the ruling Tories repeatedly criticised the failings of previous administrations.

Councillor Boulton explains:

“At Council last night the relatively new Conservative leadership repeatedly criticised what had gone before. They attempted to present themselves as knights in shining armour clearing up everyone else’s mess.

The inconvenient truth for them is that the Conservatives have been the dominant party on South Gloucestershire Council for the past 12 years. In seven of those years the council had an exclusively Conservative Cabinet.

By attempting to re-write history and present it as a failure, they are rubbishing their Tory predecessors and all their efforts. I think that is pretty shabby.

I am surprised that longer-serving Conservative councillors are happy to put up with these insults.”

Councillor Boulton continues:

“As we get into the election period we will doubtless see more Tory attempts to evade responsibility.

Residents will not be fooled as they know that everything that has happened in the last dozen years has been on the Tories’ watch.”
